Itinerary

DAY 1: PUERTO NATALES --> SUMMIT CERRO MOCHO --> PUERTO NATALES

15Km (9,5 Miles) - Elevation Gain: +/-1370m (+/-4560ft) - Hiking Time: 7-8 hrs

Departing Puerto Natales from your hotel we drive about 30 minutes till reaching the premises of Sofia lake, our starting point. We begin with an easy half an hour approach following an ancient lacustrine platform till reaching a small stream; from here we start ascending making switchbacks through firebushes and low austral beech trees till reaching the edge of the forest. Behind us, as we gain altitude we can appreciate the beauty of Sofia lake and on the back ground the waters of the Last Hope fjord. After crossing the Magellanic forest we get above the treeline for the last hour in which will be climbing up screes of shale and sandstone for the final plateau before the summit of Cerro Mocho. The total climb would take between 4 to 5 hours depending on the physical conditions. At the top the 360° view of Señoret Mountain Range, Torres del Paine National Park, Prat Range and the Last Hope fjord is simply spectacular. Descent will be along the same route, taking us approximately one hour less.
